Small Gifts

Posted by Leslie in Eating & Drinking, New York

Papabubble CandyEveryone likes gifts…

Papabubble CandyLarge or small, a gift says I care and I’m thinking of you.

Papabubble CandyI was given an incredible gift this Fall, out of the blue, for no reason at all.  It wasn’t the gift but the caring and generosity that touched me.

Papabubble CandyIn January I offered a friend a gift that normally would not have been accepted.  But I told her she had to because it’s rare and wonderful to offer and accept a gift for no reason other than you can and want to.

Papabubble CandyThese sweet gifts are from the Papabubble candy store in New York City.  They are beautiful, yummy, customizable, and made right here in New York City.

And maybe the perfect gift to give for no reason at all…

Enjoy!

Making Mistakes

Posted by Leslie in New York

Brooklyn Bridge, NY A few months ago I went crazy taking pictures of NY with my iPhone.

Brooklyn Bridge, NYCDuring one of my iPhone expeditions I also had my SLR with me and was jumping back and forth between cameras…bad idea.

Brooklyn Bridge, NYCI made a major setting mistake with my SLR and my photos came out a very cool blue which I thought was a brilliant mistake until I took a closer look.

Brooklyn Bridge, NYSo I spent some time in the digital darkroom with the images…

Manhattan Bridge, NYCI’m not thrilled with the color but I keep looking at that wide angle composition.  Not bad.

Enjoy!

Subject No. 2

Posted by Leslie in New York

Midtown, NYC As Subject No. 1 sleeps 18 hours a day she isn’t always available to shoot.

New YorkHowever Subject No. 2, the view from my window, is not only available at all hours, it never looks the same.

The 59th Street Bridge, NYC
The only time I can’t shoot out the window is during UN week when the sharpshooters on top of the UN have just as good a view of me as I do of them.

The United Nations, NYCWhat I love most about these shots is I don’t use a tripod or a flash and am usually holding my breath to keep the camera still for a very long 1/4 of a second.

Funny how that works.

Enjoy!

Wave Hill

Posted by Leslie in Escapes, New York

Riverdale I don’t often leave New York but last Sunday I visited Wave Hill to see my friend Dan Peyton’s cyanotype, called Spring Tree.  Dan’s image (the most beautiful in the exhibit) is part of a traveling exhibition called Propagating Eden, featuring modern and historical techniques of nature printing in botany and art.

Cyanotype Spring Tree, by Dan Peyton

Wave Hill, NYC

If you have never visited Wave Hill, I highly recommend a visit.

Wave Hill, NYCWave Hill is a 28-acre public garden and cultural center in the Bronx with grounds overlooking the Hudson River and Palisades.

Wave Hill, NYCIt is one of the most beautiful spots in New York City and easy to reach by public transportation.

Wave Hill, NYCThe current exhibition with Dan’s cyanotype will be on display through July 25, 2010.

Wave Hill, NYCI hope you will visit my friend’s exhibit and discover Wave Hill, possibly New York’s most beautiful natural landscape.

Enjoy!
